Pastor Larry's Letter

Am I alone in being weary of doing Church "same ole - same ole"? So many churches in our American culture are satisfied with doing the same things they've always done with the same results they've always had. All surveys reveal that the average Church in America has fewer than 100 attendees. While bigger does not necessarily mean better, it does seem to me that the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) does not allow the Church to be satisfied with the "same ole - same ole" while the vast majority of the population around them does not understand the value of being connected to God through faith in Christ.

I am extremely excited about the privilege of being the Interim Pastor of FCC. The leaders and members are in the process of "buy-in". There is an excitement about no longer solely focusing on what happens inside the walls of our historically rich building. There is an intense passion building toward what we call, "Hitting the Bull's Eye". What's the Bull's Eye? Answer: Jesus said, "Follow Me and I will make you FISHER'S OF MEN!" It is doing all we can to do life Jesus' way so that those far from God can become part of His family.

I recently read a book co-authored by Hugh Halter & Matt Smay entitled, "AND". The value of the book is its emphasis on "The Church Gathered AND The Church Scattered". It is important to be concerned about gathering together to worship God. However, to be the Church that only gathers on Sunday without being the Church that scatters throughout the week to help people handle life's issues at home, at work, at play and in our neighborhoods, does not even hit the target, let alone the "bull's eye".

So, has life thrown you some curves lately? Do you struggle with relationships at home or work? Do you feel that God is far away and cares little for what is happening to you? We want you to know that God cares and so do we. Let us be for you more than a Church that gathers on Sunday. You matter to God and to us. Let us be the Church that is available to you 24/7. Just let us know what we can do to step outside our walls and help you handle life.
