Halima Handicrafts is a self-help project that began in 1987, to provide a viable alternative for improverished widows and abandoned wives. Unemployment is very high, and often begging or prostitution are their only other choices, and so this ministry seeks to help them find employment by teaching them the skill of embroidery. In so doing, these women are given hope and an opportunity for a better life. Halima Handicrafts provides training, a work area, and start-up materials as well as a free balanced diet and free education for their children. They are also able to share the Gospel with these women and their families, and have seen many come to faith in the past year. Our support funds will be given specifically to the food and education programs for the children. Abdur Rahman Sarker, who also preaches the Gospel in surrounding areas, in homes and churches, leads the ministry. He would appreciate prayers for the continuing work of God in their ministry, and for protection from the zealous Muslims who often harass them and tries to hinder their work.
