Statement of Purpose and Policy of the Mission Team

1. The Role of the Mission Team

The role of the Mission Team, as set forth by the Constitution and By-Laws of the First Congregational Church (Article VI, Section 19), is to "set up and carry out the local evangelism and worldwide mission program of the congregation" and "to give direction and meaning to Christ's "Great Commission" as stated in Matthew 28: 19 - 20.".

2. The Purpose of the Mission Team

In response to the "Great Commission" of Christ, and to the responsibilities given it by the congregation, it is the goal of the Mission Team to work within the First Congregational Church: educate the membership and elevate the awareness of the reason and need for Christian Missions; encourage participation in local, national, and world missions; and mobilize prayer, personnel, and financial resources in support of such ministries. The primary purposes shall be to preach the Good News of Christ to all the world. (Mark 16: 15), to bring men, women, and children to a saving knowledge of God through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 10: 11 - 15), and to serve the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of humankind in the name of and with the compassion of Christ (Matthew 25: 31 - 46).

TEN WAYS TO PRAY FOR YOUR MISSIONARIES

• For Protection (II Thessalonians 3: 2)



• For open doors (Colossuans 4: 3)



• For boldness in witnessing (Ephesians 6: 19)



• For God's guidance and assistance in travel (Romans 15: 32)



• That their ministry will be accepted by local believers (Romans 15: 31)



• That the Word of God will spread without hindrance (II Thessalonians 3: 1)



• Pray knowledgeably - Learn about the country and culture where they live.



• Pray consistently - choose a time of day or a landmark that will remind you to pray.



• Pray intimately - think of what you're dealing with in your life : relationships, health, fears, hopes, spiritual vitality, wisdom, discouragement - and pray for that need in your missionary's life, too.



• Pray using Scripture - here are a few to get you started: I Coninthians 1: 3 - 11,
  II Thessalonians 3: 1 - 5, Colossians 4: 2 -4.
