Voter Registration 

Your voter registration office:
for further assistance, call (217) 782-4141 from Central and Southern Illinois, (312) 814-6440 from Chicago and Northern Illinois.

Your vote matters in Illinois-and you can register three easy ways...

1. Stop by Your Local Driver Services Facility or State Office
Save time by applying to register to vote while you apply for or renew your driver's licenses at your driver services facility, or when you're applying for public assistance at state or township offices.

2. Mail in Your Registration Application
Call your voter registration office for a form or ask them where you can pick up one in your new community. All forms must be originals. Copies and internet forms are not accepted.

3. Register in Person
Visit your voter registration office listed above. Call for office hours.

Don't wait until it's too late!!! Your voter registration form must be postmarked, or delivered, at least 29 days before the election.

*Illinois law requires you to notify the department of drivers services within 10 days of your address change. It is easy to do.

WHAT: You must notify the department of driver services of your new address in writing or by visiting a driver services facility.

WHEN: Illinois law requires notification within 10 days of your move. You can notify the Office at this web address. Please read the entire page. http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/drivers/change.html

WHY: When the department of driver services has your current address, you will be sure to receive important driver's license and registration renewal notices.

HOW: Call (800)-252-8980 to request a change-of-address form. Complete the form and mail it to:

You may also visit a driver services facility to change your address. There is no fee for the change; however, if you wish to have a new driver's license with your new address on it, there is a $5 fee.

Other Information: Residents holding a valid commercial driver's license must obtain a new license within 30 days of moving.

State law requires that drivers and front seat passengers 6 and older wear seat belts. Children younger than 4 must be properly secured in a proved child safety seat. Children 4 and 5 years old may be secured in safety seats or seat belts.

All motor vehicles registered and operated in Illinois must have liability insurance to cover the property damage and/or injuries that may occur during an accident.

You can register to vote at any driver services facility.

When you visit a driver services facility, you will be asked if you would like to join the Organ/Tissue Donor Registry, a data base that documents your desire to be a donor.
